LCS Laboratory laboratory offers ready to use sampling kits for Air Quality Testing. The kits are built in strict compliance with Industrial Hygiene practice and are designed to deliver the highest quality results. The kits are of professional grade, and require some practical skills in order to collect quality results.
In this article we want to explain how to assemble sampling train to collect Total Particulates (total dust) as per NIOSH 0500 sampling procedure. For this project we will send you a portable air sampling pump calibrated at 2 L/min, tubing with attached cassette holder, and 37 mm cassette.
Start preparation by removing red and blue 2 stoppers from the inlet and outlet side of the cassette. The picture on the left (above) shows inlet side of the cassette. Word “INLET” is embossed on the plastic. The bottom part of the cassette (outlet) has a “wagon wheel” pattern. The tube from the sampling pump will be later attached to the outlet side of the cassette. Words “inlet” and “outlet” describe airflow direction through the sampling cassette, where air with dust enters the cassette through the inlet port. Dust is collected by the filter inside the sampling cassette, and clean air is removed from the cassette via the outlet port. Take a cassette holder (upper right image) and locate round support plate.
Take the cassette holder (left image) and place the cassette onto cassette holder with inlet side facing down. Feed the connector through the support plate of the holder and insert it into the OUTLET side of the cassette (image on the right). Your cassette assembly is ready.
Connect free end of tubing to the pump. Now the entire sampling train is ready. Turn on the pump using on/off switch on the front panel.
Hang the pump on a worker’s belt, and clip the cassette holder in worker’s breathing zone. Note: cassette inlet is facing downward. You are ready to collect a sample.
